What is Hapé?

Hapé is the preparation of powdered medicinal herbs administered through the nose as a snuff. Hapé quickly and intensely produces effects that make the user feel alert and elevated. Typically, mapacho (nicotina rustica sacred tobacco) which contains about twenty times the nicotine of common tobacco is used as a base for Hapé, and other plant medicines are added for various effects.

This ancient practice of consuming powdered plant medicines through the nose dated back to the pre-Colombian days and was first observed among the indigenous tribes of Brazil. To these tribes, hapé is a sacred shamanic medicine with extensive healing and other powers. Other uses include inducing visions, increasing energy, and heightening the senses with the aromatic fragrance of the plants used in the blend.

Several tribes traditionally use Hape, and they each produce their own specific Hapé blends. These tribes include but are not limited to the Shipibo, Katukina, Yawanawa, Kaxinawa, Nukini, Kuntanawa, Apurinã, Ashaninka, and Matses.

Mulateiro Hape (rapé)

Mulateiro is a strong Rapé to release the tension accumulated in the right and left lobes of the head. It creates a strong sensation of cleaning thoughts to make us arrive deeper in the present moment.

Among the indigenous people of the Amazon it is known in a variety of different names such as Forca, Capirona, Pau-Mulato.

Mulateiro is a large tree, varying from 20 to 35 meters in height. It is a native plant of the tropical regions of the Amazon, including Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Brazil but spreads in all the Amazonian area in general. In the Summer it grows an abundance of white aromatic flowers.

This particular flora is characterized in Indigenous stories as a pioneer among the plant kindom and is full of magic and mysticism. Ever since its known existance it has served as an excellent medicine used by the Acrean and Amazonian tribes for thousands of years. It adds strength to spiritual energy and helps to refine self-perception. The sacred Mulateiro Spirit teaches to overcome the past and grow stronger roots in the present.

It is said that the Amazonian female warriors bathed on the night of the full moon with a preparation made of the bark’s tree to remain always young and beautiful, hence the Mulateiro was known among the tribes as the “tree of youth”. Men also drink the tea of this tree for virility, strength, endurancec and stamina.

The bark of the tree has a fascinating annual cycle in which it detaches, falls off entirely and regenerates again. This suggests increadible energetic possibilities related to this phenomena including anti-aging and restoration of the psyche.

Mulateiro Rapé is derived from the bark and therefore also contains the rejuvenating and renewing properties together with other beneficial healing powers.
